Unpopular Parenting Opinions

As you can tell by the title of this post- I have a few UNpopular parenting opinions! Lets kick this off with a big one.

  1. Breast. Isnt. Always. Best. Is breast feeding great? Yes. Is breastfeeding beautiful? Yes! Is breastfeeding BEST? eh- not always… Does it work for every woman? No. Is  breastfeeding the only route if you want to be a good mother? Heck no.  I can’t tell  you how many judgmental comments I’ve gotten from the super psycho breastaholics. I understand why breast feeding is great for your baby. I also understand it’s not always easy or natural or even possible for every mother. We as women should be able to CHOOSE how we feed our baby without getting judged or cast out. If we don’t support each other who will? My personal Breastfeeding journey is a post in itself.
  2. Spanking is not abuse. BEATING your child into submission…. is. Sometimes, time out and trying to reason with a 3 year old just… doesn’t… work. A swat on the bottom isn’t scarring.  A slap on the hand when he touches the electric socket after telling him 6 times not to and why its dangerous and watching him inch closer and closer until he finally is about to touch that socket is NOT abuse. Let’s all take a deep breath and admit, spanking and beating are not the same thing.
  3. Children born out of wedlock. Babies are blessings. Punto. You don’t have to be married to the kids father /mother to be a good parent or love your child.
  4. Screeeeeeen tiiiiiiime. Before I had Ozzy I was so confident in saying “My child will never watch TV…. blah blee bluuuuhhh” Haha- I have to laugh at pre-baby me. She was sweet. Haha. His naptime is not enough time for me to get everything I need to get done in a day ,done.  I am not an octopus. There are times I need to throw on some Busy Beavers or Netflix so Ozzy can chill. *sings* “Daddy finger, Daddy finger, Where are yooooou”
  5. Natural < Medication. If Ozzy has a high fever, I’m not going to stick him in a tub or rub essential oils between his toes and stick my lavender infused  pinky in his left ear. I’m going to give him some Kids Tylenol and bring it down right away.  Come at me, bro.

These are just a few parenting opinions. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions… feel free to share yours! 😉
